Survivors/Caregivers

Survivors and caregivers are the heart of every Relay For Life event.   A survivor is anyone who has ever heard the words “You have cancer”. A caregiver is the person(s) who most often helps the survivor and is not paid to do so. And we invite all cancer survivors and caregivers in Second Life to attend Relay For Life.

Our goal is to create a world where more people survive cancer so they can celebrate another birthday. This year more than 11 million people will be able to do that thanks to the support of millions of dedicated Relay For Life participants.

Survivors are the guests of honor at Relay For Life. In Second Life, our survivors receive a special gift bag filled with great gifts from various merchants in Second Life. The Relay For Life of Second Life opens with the Survivors Celebrate laps, where survivors lead the way around the track while being honored and applauded by all participants.  Joined halfway through by their caregivers, this Celebration is the reason we relay.

Being a part of the Celebrate Opening Lap allows survivors to celebrate what they’ve overcome while inspiring and motivating their community to fight. Survivors are proof that cancer can be defeated.

Relay For Life is also a great way for people to meet other survivors and caregivers in their own community and across the grid. In many communities, survivors and caregivers form their own teams, join the Relay committee, or volunteer for the American Cancer Society in other ways.
